The Innovative Construction Research Centre (ICRC) at The University of Reading was established in January 2002 with a grant of £2.5M from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The award was further extended in 2006 to provide continuity of funding through to 2011 - thereby confirming the University of Reading’s status as an international centre of excellence for construction research. The ICRC is committed to working collaboratively with leading players in the UK construction sector to encourage the development of a knowledge-based industry responsive to change. The aim is to foster innovation, human resource development and an investment in advanced technology. At the centre of our vision is the through-life integration of design, construction and facilities management.
The ICRC research portfolio is structured around three inter-connecting themes:
- Competitiveness, Productivity and Performance
- Through-life Management and Innovation
- Innovative Procurement
