Dr Roine Leiringer
Roine Leiringer is a Senior Research Fellow in the ICRC. He completed his PhD [Tekn.Dr] at the Department of Industrial Economics and Management, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm and also holds an MSc in Civil Engineering from the same university.
Roine is the research co-ordinator for Work Package 3 on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) £5.5M Grand Challenge project: Knowledge and Information Management through Life. As such he is responsible for the co-ordination of the research activities at the 7 universities involved in the work package. His own research on the project revolves around the areas of ‘High Value Manufacturing’ and ‘High Value Construction’. In particular, this targets the strategic implications for large firms shifting from product manufacturing towards through-life service offerings. The research is undertaken in close collaboration with Balfour Beatty plc and ABB UK Ltd.
Roine has a long-standing interest in integrated procurement systems and how these kinds of arrangements may or may not incentivise construction companies to change their ways of working. Much of his research in this area has targeted Public-Private Partnership/Private Finance Initiative arrangements. His work on the topic has been cited in Swedish governmental reports, as well as by the OECD. Other research interests include: innovation theory and diffusion; the correlation between commercial (dis)incentivisation and innovative behaviour on projects; and a broad interest in critical research and the philosophy of science. Within his areas of interest Roine has guest-edited two special issues in academic journals; acted as a referee for eight international peer-reviewed journals; and is regularly asked to review for international conferences.
