Stuart Green is Director and Principal Investigator of the Innovative Construction Research Centre (ICRC). He is also professor of construction management, a chartered civil engineer and a chartered builder. He first joined the University of Reading in 1987 following several years experience with a national contractor, and has also gained design experience with a multi-disciplinary firm of consulting engineers. Stuart has been Principal Investigator on numerous Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) awards totalling in excess of £3 million - all of which have been carried out in close collaboration with industry. He initially became well known internationally for his doctoral research in the areas of value management and group decision support. He has since has published widely in a range of international journals on topics as diverse as: strategic briefing, knowledge management, lean construction and supply chain management. Current EPSRC-funded projects include Sustained Competitiveness in the UK Construction Sector: a Fresh Perspective and Immortal Information and Through-Life Knowledge Management. Stuart has previously served on the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team (SAT) for innovative manufacturing (2003-2004) and the EPSRC Sector Target Advisory Group (STAG) for the IMI, MCNS and LINK-IDAC research programmes (2000-2001). He has been elected to the EPSRC Peer Review College for three consecutive periods: 2000-2003, 2003-2006, and 2006-2009.
Stuart regularly acts as a consultant to industry in the areas of value management, risk management and partnering. Projects range in value from £350,000 to £200M. Stuart has also facilitated strategic planning workshops involving directors of several national contractors. Past clients include BAA, Barclays Bank, Defence Estates, John Mowlem, Northumbrian Water, Ove Arup, Royal Albert Hall, Taylor Woodrow, Shell and Southern Water.
