Professor Derek Clements-Croome
Currently Director of Research for the School of Construction Management and Engineering; Chairman of: Natural Ventilation Group and Intelligent Buildings Group for the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. Vice-President of CIBSE from May 2007 and Board Member for British Council of Offices.
Research interests include intelligent buildings; design of workplaces; logistic support analysis; individual environmental control; indoor quality and alternative approaches to heating, ventilating and airconditioning of buildings; environmental design for human needs; environmental issues for the construction industry. Has received many research grants awarded by EPSRC, DTI, Royal Academy of Engineering, Industry and EU. Published over 200 papers on various aspects of his research and education projects.
Author of several books: including Airconditioning and Ventilations of Buildings, Pergamon Press, 1981 (Second Edition), also published in Chinese and Russian; Noise, Buildings and People, Pergamon Press, 1977; a principal contributor to Investing in Building 2001; Editor and part author of: Naturally Ventilated Buildings, Spon 1997; Creating the Productive Workplace, Spon 2000; Electromagnetic Environments and Health in Buildings, E & FN Spon, 2003; Intelligent Buildings, Telford Press 2004 (Chinese version 2006). Creating the Productive Workplace (Routledge) Second Edition 2005.
Visiting Professor at several universities in China: Chongqing 1995; Tianjin 2000 and others. Honorary President of Intelligent Buildings Congress at Cracow University, 2001 and 2002, 2004, 2006. UK Ambassador and Chairman, at Clima 2000, 7th World Congress, Naples in September 2001.
Silver and Bronze Medallist of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and the Institute of Hospital Engineering. Nominated and elected Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Airconditioning Engineers in 1997. Nominated and elected Lifetime Member of the International Academy of Indoor Air Sciences in 2000. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, Institution of Civil Engineers, Institute of Acoustics, Institute of Physics and Royal Society of Arts.
