Dr Obuks Ejohwomu
Obuks joined the School of Construction Management and Engineering in December 2007 as a Post-doctoral researcher of Construction Engineering and Management. He received his PhD from the University of Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton which focused on ‘construction skill demand and supply dynamics’ in 2007.
Born into the Royal Family of His Majesty, Chief Luke Erede Ejohwomu, Ovie of Abraka Kingdom; Obuks’s journey into academia commenced in Nigeria from where he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering in one of Nigeria’s finest university – University of Benin was ranked 1st in the 2007 league table.
On completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment Obuks worked in the construction industry as a contract and site trainee engineer. Confronted with the challenges of innovative procurement and manpower productivity - Obuks’s quest for knowledge took him to Heriot-Watt University from where he obtained an MSc degree in Information Technology (Systems). In partial fulfilment of his MSc degree Obuks was assigned to Scottish Water, Glasgow where he joined a team of consultants tasked with the responsibility of developing a unifying platform for all three entities which make up Scottish Water. In particular, Obuks developed an integrated telemetry and laboratory database system which informed the review of ‘manual sampling’ in the supply of portable water.
Employed as a research assistant during his PhD studies, Obuks undertook a major research project for the Black Country Learning and Skills Council. He developed a model which the Black Country Consortium and the Learning and Skills Council are now adopting for their sub-region.
Areas of research specialisation include construction engineering and management, manpower modelling, information systems engineering and procurement. He has supervised and mentored several postgraduate and undergraduate dissertations. His research activities have been disseminated through: over 10 refereed academic journal/conference papers; research seminars and workshops. Obuks is a member of the: Institute of Civil Engineers; and Association of Researchers in Construction Management.
