Dr Libby Schweber

Libby Schweber is a Principal Research Fellow in the ICRC. She completed her BA at Harvard University and her PhD in Sociology at Princeton University. She is a member of the ESRC Peer Review College. She joined the ICRC in October 2008.

Before joining the ICRC, Libby's research was in the areas of comparative historical sociology and the sociology of science. More specifically, she studied the effects of state institutions on the development of science and technology. Her book, Disciplining Statistics was awarded the Robert K. Merton prize by the American Sociological Association in 2008 for best recent publication in the areas of science and technology. The monograph provides an institutional account for differences in styles of statistical reasoning in France and Britain.

At the ICRC Libby's research focuses on a number of themes including: mainstreaming sustainability in large construction and engineering firms, the use of environmental assessment tools in design and project teams and the uptake ofmicro-generation technologies.She is particularly interested in the effect of social technologies on economic and organizational behavior.

In addition to these substantive interests, Libby has a special interest in epistemological and methodological issues. She brings to her research at the ICRC a special interest in the application of socio-technical network theory, neo institutionalism and organization theory to topics in construction management.
