Significant pressures are forcing designers to change the way in which they select components for new facilities. Asset management, new procurement arrangements, demand for value-for-money and environmental penalties are examples. Clients want a whole life approach, rather than a capital cost approach. However, there is a lack of understanding of whole life appraisal techniques in the industry, with issues such as maintenance costs, component lives, durability, sustainability and taxation all forming complex scenarios.
The aim of the project is to demonstrate the potential for using web-based tools for the appraisal and management of risk across the whole life of a built facility.
